Lebanon's Lagrima soar to new heights on sophomore album
I'm sure that Lebanon is a hard place to break out in the metal scene but based on the music created on Lagrima's sophomore album, 'Gilgamesh', they may be the band to do so. Musically, the album has a great mix of brutal and melodic guitar riffs. 'Gilgamesh' also showcases some of the best black metal vocals to grace the scene in recent years. With those elements combined, Lagrima can easily stand with some of the melodic bm greats. Although just a duo (Ayman - vocals, Tarek - instruments), Lagrima would be a force as a full band. 'Gilgamesh' is an excellent album, so watch out for these guys in the years to come.
Recommended for fans of: Melodic Black Metal, early Opeth
I'm a sucker for a concept album or an album that pulls directly from history and Lagrima has gifted me with an album that does both! 'Gilgamesh' is an album that is inspired by the Mesopotamian tale "The Epic of Gilgamesh". The band has a strong root in the black metal genre but mixes in some melody and catchy death metal hooks throughout the release. The vocals are a good mix of black metal and death growls. The way the band use the Gilgamesh story is really cool and makes this one a really fun album to listen to, especially since it's one of my favorite epic poems out there. If you are a history nerd like me or if you just enjoy good black metal, go out and snag this album and dive into it and take a step back in time.
