Poland's Jarun was completely unknown to me before listening to 'Sporysz' but I found that the band has been around for over a decade. What is impressive about Jarun is their ability to really make great use of musical progression on each track from this album; something I wish more bands would do. They will take a riff that starts out subtle and then turn into a giant ball of aggression. They aren't above letting other instruments take center stage as well. The opening track is run solely by the bass guitar with the drums and guitars taking a more rhythmical role. The vocals are a cool mixture of blackened rasps with some really great clean vocal work. I do wish there had been more cleans in the mix personally. I am extremely impressed with 'Sporysz' and the thought and care that Jarun put into making this album and am quite excited to see what is next for this band.
