Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Upon receipt of the new Cage CD "Darker Than Black" I was unsure of what I was about to listen to, since I wasn't familiar with Cage minus a few scant songs I had heard through friends of mine. I popped the disc in the CD player and sat back and was just blown away. From the moment the first track began to play I started wondering where in the hell this band had been my whole life.

This CD has everything a metal fan is looking for--kick ass guitar riffs, thundering drums, phenomenal solos, and a voice that any singer would kill for. I have not stopped listening to this CD yet and grow more fond of it each time I listen to it.

My favorite track thus far is "Chupacabra" due to the guitar riffs and the fact that vocalist Sean Peck sings his ass off. As I read through the booklet, I was totally floored to see that Sean Peck did all the vocals and character voices on the album. What's the big deal you may ask? Well, on the previously mentioned song, Peck pulls off power, death, and black metal vocals all in one song. It's obvious that this guy has a voice that is different and far better than some. He could be a dead ringer for Tim "Ripper" Owens of Judas Priest, but I think that he is way better than Mr. Owens.

Anyone who wants something to headbang to or just sit back and rock out cannot miss picking up this CD. I believe that this is going to be one of the best, if not the best album of 2003. If you consider yourself a fan of metal in any way, shape, or form you cannot afford to miss this album. And for those of you guitar freaks out there, you should definitely check out the work of guitarists Dave Garcia and Anthony McGinnis. Hell, all the guys in the band are great at what they do so go check this album out.
