Arsenal of talent
The really interesting aspect of this Raleigh, NC band is that the arsenal of talent is comprised from various genres of music. Central North Carolina’s punk scene is represented by members of The Scaries, Alli with an I, Amish Jihad and The Manhattan Project. Originally the group was founded from a two-piece instrumental act called Perrorsmith before transforming into today's robust seven man lineup. The group's storied past is a collector's dream, encompassing six different releases of three original recordings spread across three labels. With ten years of playing out, the band's core sound is one that is easy to identify with – NWOTHM. The band is influenced by the droves of forefathers, predominantly Priest, Maiden, Saxon but also relishing in today's high-distortion sounds of Mastodon, Bison B.C. and High on Fire. But where those acts are members of the stoner and doom metal faculty, Colossus is more of a flashy melodic metal band steeped in fantasy and science fiction tales. I can hear everything from Bible of the Devil and Bison B.C. to Sweden's late 90s explosion of Hammerfall related exports. Guitarist Bill Fischer is also a member of a great instrumental act called Ruscha.
