Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Well it doesn't take a really talented writer to "do up" a Cannibal Corpse record. Basically this New York band have bee pummeling fans worldwide with their disgusting, horror drenched bloodbaths of metal song and dance. Their newest record is simply called "Kill" and sees the group of deathheads firmly trenched in their bloodthirsty roots. "Kill" is absolutely loaded with mammoth thrash riffs and monolithic groove passages. George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher is right on track here, grunting and groaning through a death metal frenzy that vividly describes scenes of torture and battle rage. Honestly I haven't seen the band this good since "The Bleeding", with this new effort probably more of an innovative styling that incorporates that cutting edge modern production. That alone lends this type of recording that "extra" effect to breathe new life and energy into the band's legacy. Highlights for me are the barnstorming opener "The Time To Kill Is Now" (just listen to Pat's solo two verses in!) and "Necrosadistic Warning" with it's monsterous doomy grooves. Lyrics are blatantly vulgar and offensive, but you still can't help but like the humor in "Five Nails Through The Neck" and "Brain Removal Device".

Bottom Line - Probably the best Cannibal Corpse record since "The Bleeding".
