Despite the unfortunate circumstances of her departure from Nightwish, I have always liked Anette Olzon. Her solo debut is not likely to win over detractors, and little on here is full-on metal. But for those open to something poppier, Shine is worth checking out. The title track is a potential hit that blends a very European pop sensibility with metal-ish guitars, while tracks like "Floating" are more purely melodic and mellow. I always sensed that Anette's tastes were poppier than Nightwish overall ("Falling" is the closest thing to their style here), and this album proves it. Well-crafted, tasteful, and a solid start to her solo career.
