Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Truly a remarkable comeback for a band that was on top of its game during the early 90's leading the way for Swedish Death Metal. If you remember Soulless' this is the album that should have followed after it instead of Hating Life' (which in this reviewers opinion should have never been recorded). With the rut that Swedish Death Metal has been going through these days I think Grave may be able to put some new life back into it. Tracks like 'Rise' and 'Receiver' just grind away at your soul while 'Resurrection' and 'Dead Is Better' batter you like a red headed stepchild. My personal favorite on the album is one that just seems to pull at the heartstrings 'Thorn To Pieces'. I'm not saying that this is the most remarkable album ever made but I am saying that it will brutally kick your ass! I think a lot of that is due to the great production by Tomas Skogsberg and Ola Lindgren. Hopefully they can keep it together this time around and continue their legacy of great music (except the aforementioned 'Hating Life').

Props to Jacek Wisniewski for a killer album cover!
