Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Another magnificent outpouring of incredible music from Nhor
Ever since discovering Nhor earlier this year, I have been completely enamored with the music that he creates and after listening to 'Wildflowers: Spring', I was chomping at the bit for the next installment. When I found out that 'Wildflowers: Summer' was out, thanks to my reminder from Bandcamp, I immediately bought it and immersed myself into the album.

With this album, Nhor has picked up right where he left off with 'Spring' and continues to provide thought provoking, hauntingly beautiful music that is just incredible. The tracks on this album, while having a little more brightness to them than their predecessor, still have that mystic, haunting quality that really takes hold of you from the moment the first note echoes through your headphones. "Light, Sing to Me" opens the album up with with a wonderful tone that just places you on a hillside on a warm, sunny day. That atmosphere continues as the album progresses and on "I Have No Stars Left To Wish Upon", there is a subtle melancholy that creeps in but doesn't overwhelm the track. It allows for introspection as you lose yourself in the music. It also happens to be my favorite track from the album.

As a whole, this album is just top notch from start to finish and really provides a wonderous soundscape to travel through. Partnered with 'Spring', 'Summer' allows you to welcome a time of growth and flourishment in the world outside as things spring to life and then blossom into true beauty in the summer. I wish the album was a bit longer as I found myself wanting more when the album ended. However, that might be part of the plan that Nhor is executing with each release, giving just enough to let the majesty of the music shine through without overdoing it and losing its wonder. I am in awe of the ability Nhor has to translate the season through musical notes and atmosphere while still providing music that is suitable for any time. So go out and check out 'Wildflowers: Summer', lose yourself in the beauty of the music, and see where you wind up.
