Over the course of their 25-year career, Sweden's black metal pioneers Svartsyn have released 9 full-length albums, 3 EPs, and a hand full of demo recordings, solidifying them as a consistently active band. Although originally consisting of a full lineup, Svartsyn has become a one-man project lead by multi-instrumentalist, Ornias. 'In Death', their 9th full-length is a grimly produced album with 7 harrowing tracks ranging from ice cold blast beats to mid-paced anthems of death and doom. Although better produced than the typical underground black metal album, it sounds murky and the mix is really low sounding. Still an impressive album though!

You can tell that Svartsyn is definitely a fan of the genre as you can hear influences from Bathory to Dissection and many others throughout the album. The band doesn't mess around with their sound and make sure they are creating black metal that is pure and organic. With that though comes the problem of sounding a bit dated. While there is no lo-fi production imminently present, the album itself feels like it was meant to be released in the late 80's or early 90's. If you are looking for innovative black metal, this isn't for you. If you like your black metal old school, then you'll definitely enjoy this album.
