Here we have a very interesting but short demo of complex, technical metalcore brought to you by two ex-members of the highly revered Long Island band, Neck. But don't be mistaken. This sounds nothing like Neck.
Carbomb is highly influenced by Meshuggah, Mr. Bungle/Fantomas and The Dillinger Escape Plan and the entire demo reeks of the aforementioned band's influences. From the staccato riffing reminiscent of Meshuggah, to the bizarre time changes ala Dillinger and Meshuggah to the eccentric Pattonesque vocals that surface in the last two tracks, this demo will take you for a ride. Carbomb is intense (a quality a lot of tech-metal bands seem to lack) as hell and the members are all extremely talented. The only complaints I have are these: the clean vocals on "Solid Grey" are Patton worship and just don't fit in my eyes. They aren't that good either, and I enjoyed the vocalist's clean vocals in Neck. Maybe it's just the way they were recorded, but I honestly think that he should just stick to his scream, because it's very abrasive and fits this style of music much better than clean vocals would. Additionally, I hope that as this band matures that their sound will too.
Right now, their main influences are very noticeable in the music. Too much so sometimes, but I have a feeling that as this band starts to flesh out it's music/song-writing even more, this will definitely change. I definitely look forward to hearing where this band continues going. They have what it takes to make a big impression on the entire "tech-metal" scene. Good work guys.
