Old school black metal outfit that brings forth a monster album
Domgard is a band that if you don't really know them, it's understandable. While they've been in existence for twenty or so years, the band didn't put any material out until 2004 when they were released from prison for their part in church burnings in their native Sweden. They released two full-length albums, one in 2010 and the other in 2012 and now 'Odelagt', the third full-length album has arrived after a 5 year wait. What's clear upon the first notes of this new album is that Domgard are still laser sharp with their black metal mastery. The music on the album seems to take the best of the 90's second wave Swedish black metal and utilize those elements with a little more modern sound at times. The overall product is still very raw and aggressive though so don't think because they're tweaking their sound a little that it won't sound traditional. The two biggest gripes I have with the album are its length and the two instrumental tracks that seem to be filler, one of which closes the album out. Despite the album being over an hour long and the instrumental closing the album out, you will be hard pressed to find much else to dislike about this album.
