G3 - Live in Denver (2003) - 2004 - Sony Music
In 2003 the trio of guitar talent's-- Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Yngwie Malmsteen went on the road together as the G3 Tour and were recorded at the Filmore Auditorium, Denver, Colorado 10/20/03. All those guys are master shredders of the guitar, so the curious many were wondering when the tour would implode from ego overdrive. Each guy took a turn to came out and gave a solo performance with full backing band. To me, Joe was more groovy, Steve was more soulful even though I expected more fret burning and Yngwie was, of course, the neo-classical speedking. Noticably heavy, he was still by far the visual treat of the show looking more like a classic, hair-flying guitar god than the casualness of the others. I don't think Yngwie has changed since I seen him in the 80's. The real highlight of the DVD was the end set where they all came out together and went through some incredible versions of Hendrix classics 'Little Wing' and 'Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)'. Hearing and seeing these guys play in unison is quite the awesome sight and on stage not a single toe was stepped on. You would probably have to be a really big fan of super guitar playing to purchase this one new, but it's definately worth a rent if you see it.
