Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

  • The intensity of freshly spewed lava

  • Reviewing a two track EP is not the easiest of things to do. However, For I Am King's 'We All Have Demons' has captured my attention since my first listen. "This Is A Warning" is the first track and comes out swinging with insanely heavy riffs, vocals that will send shivers down your spine and a song that gets the metal flowing through my veins with the intensity of freshly spewed lava. Vocal artist Alma delivers some of the best growls and screams I have heard in a long time with guitarists Jurgen and Wouter packing enough wallops to floor a charging rhino. Drummer Jaap and bassist Jasper fatten up the mix with a backend that pulls everything together in a tight, brutal mix. "We All Have Demons" keeps up the frenetic pace and throws in some pretty nifty guitar noodling and some insanely heavy breakdowns that had me nearly snapping my neck with headbanging ferocity. The bridge is incredibly poignant and beautiful before going to a Gothenburg-styled riff that plays the track through to its conclusion. The video for this track is also pretty damn cool as well. These two songs have got me so enamored that I can’t stop listening to them. I am sure I look like a mental patient spasming around in my car when these tracks are on. I am eagerly looking forward to a full length album by these very talented Danes and only hope that this EP can hold me over until then!
