I have reviewed my share of odd and funky bands throughout my time but I think I have to say that CB Murdoc definitely holds the title for strangest so far. "Here Be Dragons", the band's 3rd album and 1st with new label ViciSolum Records, is a strange mix of djent and progressive tech death metal. You can hear everything from Decapitated, Animals As Leaders and many, many other bands in the sound that CB Murdoc throws out. The riffs and guitars are very groove heavy with solos and random guitar wankery going on. There is no doubt that the boys in CB can play some really technical stuff. However, the problem that I had listening to "Here Be Dragons" is the chaos that ensued while trying to listen to the album. There is so much going on in each song that it's damn near impossible to keep up with all the crazy time signatures, tempo changes and listen to the vocals. While the album wasn't bad by any means, it was one that even when trying to sit down and listen to on headphones it failed to keep me engaged.
