When I first heard of OTEP, I thought they were horrible, and I didn’t understand the point of the song “my confession.” Why would a band write much a song, why would a woman write a song like that. it’s a song so odd yet so truthful in the lyrics its scary. You want a down to Earth look at life, this is the song and the band to do it.

OTEP doesn’t write just a song, they write chapters to stories which are their albums. It's up to you in your mind to create the pictures to the chapters and develop a story of your own to go with the lyrics. The first song off of Sevas Tra is amazing--“tortured”, it’s a spoken verse speaking of the daily events that caused her so much hate and distrust in the first place. it’s a scary reality of the sick and twisted people out in the world today.

My favorite song on the album is Sacrilege. The song is a deep inside view of someone that has been truly bothered by the torture that has occurred within her lifetime. Everything that has been pushed on her is enough, and she cant take anymore. The lyric that says it best is: “say what you need to save your soul, but leave your religion at the door.” it speaks so much thought and so much passion that you can't help but listen to it.

OTEP is rough and heavy industrial rock that is a force to be messed with. It's all truth and hate flowing through the vocals of Otep Shamaya. Whatever caused the writing of these lyrics really propelled her metal goddess status up, and she is now one of the few women inustrial artists that have the true understanding of industrial music.
