Hailing from Puerto Rico, FALLEN WISDOM came to the U.S. when they outgrew their San Juan roots. Their second release, PLEASURE TURNS PAIN, has now sold out completly and the band has toured the U.S. in support of it. The third release, IMMORTAL, is carrying the band all the way to Japan and throughout the entire U.S on tour in hopes of spreading the word.
Recently, I have seen an upswing in the popularity of the harder metal thrash in America, and this album only proves why. While my taste has always lie in hard rock, it's band like this and CD's like IMMORTAL that treat my ears to an aggressive, pounding, thrash sound-- although not so much punk as I was expecting. The songs are bass and drum driven tempered with clear and stellar guitar riffs. Dark and almost sinister sounding lyrics seem to haunt you from behind the hypnotic rythym by which their nearly drowned out. That's pretty much the whole tone for the album, dark and sinister; producing songs that are a direct contadiction to the band's biblically derived name such as CHILDREN OF THE DEAD, DECEASED WE MATE.
IN THE SHADOWS and SAINT OF KILLERS are my personal favorites on this collecton of music, with almost horror movie quality vocals talking about death and angels from the dark side. For thrash and punk junkies, you will love this CD and I strongly recomend it. But be warned as with most music of this genre the focus is on the musical arrangements, the vocals are difficult to understand, if you can make them out at all. But that aside, I was impressed with this third release from FALLEN WISDOM and in my opinion is worth a listen.
