Black metal stew that is tasty, meaty and marinated in atmosphere
One of the things that immediately struck me about Myrholt's 'Med Samme Naal, Under Samme Maane' was the intent to suck you in to a sense of expectant normalcy before pulling the rug out from under you, wrapping you up in it and beating you for assuming you knew what was coming. While the band has roots in early 90's black metal, they also utilize pacing very well to help break things up and add little moments of surprise throughout the album. Take "Mikrokosmos" for instance. The song starts off with this wicked little riff that leads in to an explosion of blast beats. But then just when you think you know where the band plan to take things, this jazzy little breakdown comes in and catches you off guard. Little nuances and touches like that really make this album unpredictable and thoroughly enjoyable. I highly suggest giving this one a spin, you'll definitely enjoy the journey.
