I admit, upon first listen to this CD I emitted no emotions what-so-ever and was unimpressed with the insane mix of metal, horror, old-school hardcore, acoustic & pop riffs, grindcore and "The Doors" style keyboards pressed within. However, I remembered my roots and the fact that all the formentioned styles and genres are what I grew up with and has forever influenced me into a life of metal. I gave Amityville Whore a second chance and was honestly blown away by stellar musicianship, originality, and the bands "we do what we want attitude". I was and still am impressed, therefore, I must break down all the madness that is contained within the 10 song, under 30 minute, debut demo simply known as Amityville Whore.
The vocals: Think Mortician, Gwar, Suicidal Tendencies, and the legendary Righteous Pigs. Each song (minus the errie instrumental - CROM) contains at least two vocal styles that are reminicient of these bands without biting their styles completely. You see, with Amityville Whore, you never know which vocal style to expect with the vast proportions of music that they play. The perfect example of their vocal versatility lays within the song "Shit Bitch". There are high pitched screams, death metal vokills and even old school hardcore style vocals. Oh, did I mention that "Shit Bitch" is only a minute long? Do you see where I'm getting? There is no room for relaxation!
The music: Hardcore, Death Metal, acoustic melody parts and 70's style keyboards is just a small example of what Amityville Whore has to offer. Now consider all these styles in the same song and you'll be left wondering how they pull it off with such success. These guys are not a couple of crackheads with no talent trying to create something new, these guys are great metal musicians that have something to offer to the masses out there that are tired of the same old crap! Listen to the song "Porn Again" and count the number of influencial changes that occur and then try denying at the end of the song that it is a good anthem for kicking metal in the ass! The songs contained within are meant to be fun and played loud but at the same time, Amityville Whore are serious musicians that are going to make a statement in the metal underground. Although the four members are cheesily dubbed as "Lord Scumbag", "Creep Of The Crotch", "Fuckface The Rapest", & "Necroburger", those titles are well-suited to match the overall theme of their songs and the CD in general.
The production/fills: The production is raw, but what other type of production is there for a band of this calibur. Besides, this is a demo CD! Some music was meant to stay raw and in the underground and this CD is the epitomy of both. This CD is also filled with short, in-between-song skits that include one liners from movies and Andrew Dice Clay comedy outtakes.
In summary, Amityville Whore is a great debut demo and I can't wait to hear some new material sometime in the near future. I imagine also that these guys rip up the stage and the crowd at their shows. If you want to hear something new and original and are open minded enough to enjoy all types of music joined as one, then check out Amityville Whore and relinquish your metal soul to the new generation of sleaze core!
