0 Terrible - Waste of your life and time.

Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Well, the Gothenberg boys are back with their latest album. For those of you not familiar with the bands previous album "Reroute to Remain", this was a departure from what most listeners were used to. This album is much like that with an occasional twist thrown in there.

The first track "F(r)iend" is a throwback to old In Flames and leaves the listener's mouth agape with the heaviness and melody that this song contains. The following track "The Quiet Place" is something you would have heard on "Reroute to Remain". The album follows this pattern somewhat throughout the rest of the disc. While In Flames is experimenting with some things, one thing that has stayed in their formula is the melody that made them a success.

The trademark Swedish guitars are executed flawlessly by Jesper Stromblad and Bjorn Gelotte. Anders Friden gets downright guttural on the opening track and then throws in clean vocals at certain points in the album. This album is somewhat of an anomaly for the simple fact that it is hard to determine where the band is headed. I enjoyed the album but am still somewhat undecided as to what I think of this album overall. It is not something that you can compare to pre-Reroute to Remain In Flames because they have evolved and matured with each album they released. So go pick up "Soundtrack to Your Escape" and experience the phenomenon that are In Flames.
