The underground LA thrash band Hirax are back at it again! The unruly dogs are back runnin' in the streets with a new DVD entitled "Thrash 'Til Death" for self owned label Black Devil Records. Most of you will remember Hirax from their Metal Blade years, highlights being their first two albums "Raging Violence" and "Hate, Fear, Power". Of the original line-up only vocalist Katon W. De Pena remains, this time heading up his own brand of Hirax with Angelo Espino on bass, Glenn Rogers and Dave Watson on guitars, and Dave Chedrick on drums.
The band are probably one of a kind, really not sounding like anyone and vice-versa. Their blend of thrash mayhem is shorter songs that emphasize punk and hardcore structures, however De Pena is more of a clean singer. This DVD is a great crash course for new listeners of the band. Over 2 hours of live footage is brought to life on film, with complete sets from Minneaopolis Mayhem 2 as well as bonus songs from the Bang Your Head Festival, Sweden Rock Fest, and the Dokk'em Open Air Fest. In terms of video quality this is about average. We get lots of close-ups and pretty solid sound from the band, including a guest performance from Guardians Of The Flame axeman Jack Starr. The DVD also contains an interview with the band, a discography, and a promo video for "Hostile Territory".
You can buy this DVD over at www.blackdevilrecords.com and it is also available through Century Media distribution.
Note - Look for a new Hirax album, "Assassins Of War", with original drummer Johnny Tabares.
