Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

At one time in the not so distant past I could count the number of great Polish Death bands on one hand. Now I need both hands, all ten toes and a few more mutated digits to successfully pull it off. Add Lost Soul to the ever growing list as "Chaostream" easily competes with the best metal that Poland has to offer. The first thing that sticks out about this band is their melodic yet frenzied guitar soloing. While many brutal acts can generate machine-gun riffing, the groups that incorporate mind bending shredding into the mix are much more interesting to my ear. Pulling off this kind of semi-technical extreme metal is no easy task. Lost Soul rise to the occasion on all nine tracks with just the right mix of sonic speed and haunting breaks, backed by a vocal style not overbearing but still demonic enough to get the job done. Indeed, playing this well, Lost Soul will get pegged for sounding similar to the better known acts of the genre but it's the ones who rise above and create a legacy of their own that keeps me listening with an evil grin. Lost Soul has certainly climbed their way to the top of the elite mountain with "Chaostream". While this album will probably get little to no recognition against the bigger name bands out there, I would confidently place it up against the best releases this year will have to offer.
