Subtle samples and soundscapes merged with hints of black metal
With an album like pando's 'hiraeth', the hardest part about doing a review is that it is pretty subjective based on the individual listener. What I hear and enjoy about the album isn't necessarily what someone else would hear and enjoy themselves. The experience of listening to an album like this one is what makes it very unique and quite satisfying as a whole. It's also an album that will require several listens to really be able to appreciate what pando has done on this release. The majority of the album are sound samples and field recordings with some ambient and bm undertones. It is a bleak and dismal sonic landscape that is unyielding. The only complaint I have is that the utilization of the black metal at the end of the songs gets a bit tiresome and some slight structural changes would have been really nice to have in place. But overall, I keep going back to this one and finding new listening experiences each time I play it.
